The company’s story began in 1936, when Frank Hunter established a bespoke tailoring business in Belfast. His son Graham Hunter O.B.E joined the business as its second generation in 1962, helping to sustain and develop its manufacturing capabilities through decades of industry change and the challenges of the Troubles.
Graham’s contribution was later recognised with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Professional Clothing Industry Association Worldwide. His leadership provided the foundation upon which the company’s future generations could continue to build.
Under third-generation CEO Simon Hunter Esq, M.B.E, Hunter evolved from a traditional garment manufacturer into a technology-led specialist in professional clothing and personal protective equipment for emergency services across the UK and Ireland.
Its innovations include the HunterPAC® uniform and PPE management platform, the HunterCARE® garment care and maintenance service; AI-driven sizing technology; and Deconology®, which uses the first introduced LCO₂+ decontamination technology to remove harmful contaminants from firefighters’ PPE.
Hunter also introduced Flexguard®, the world’s first fully hinged blunt-trauma exoskeleton for public order officers. The innovation has received top honours at both the BSIF Safety Awards and the NAUMD Awards in North America in 2025.
In 2023, Jude Hunter joined the company as Business Development Manager, marking the arrival of the family’s fourth generation and today, Hunter continues to manufacture, innovate and protect frontline personnel.
